DBS receives award as DigitalPilot 2023

We are digital pioneers

We are excited to announce that Digital Building Solutions GmbH was named a DigitalPilot in the region of Warendorf last week. With this new award, the German Gfw honours regional companies that are pioneers in digitalisation.

The prize was awarded for the first time by the Gesellschaft für Wirtschaftsförderung im Kreis Warendorf (gfw). An independent expert jury reviewed all 71 applications and selected the winners. A total of 24 companies from the region received awards in six different categories. Last week, the prizes were officially handed over by District Administrator Dr. Olaf Gericke and gfw Managing Director Petra Michalczak-Hülsmann. We are pleased to have been awarded in the category "Digitally supported sustainability" for the use of our digital fingerprint to support circular economy.

Digital fingerprint supports circular economy

In food retail, we all know the disposal instructions on packaging: The yoghurt pot itself is plastic waste, but the banderole is paper waste. Information about proper disposal and recycling is already provided when the product is purchased. But what about building materials? How do installers or homeowners know which materials have to be disposed, so that they can be recycled in the best possible way? Currently, there are no instructions on proper disposal when buying building materials.

With our DBS WinDo Flow solution, we have developed a digital fingerprint in the form of a small NFC chip that precisely addresses this challenge. The chip documents the raw materials used in window construction and the recyclability of installed product components. Thus, the digital fingerprint enables lifelong data access and can be read out with all mobile devices. In addition, information on proper disposal and recyclability can be stored. For example in window construction, the reuse of unmixed recycled PVC can save around 90% of energy and CO2 emissions compared to virgin material. (EPPA). Therefore, WinDo Flow ultimately brings together profile manufacturers, window manufacturers, installers and recycling companies to digitally support the circular economy in window construction.

Going into the future digitally

The concept and method for the competition on digitalisation in companies has been developed by gfw and is unique in Germany. With the Digital Pilots 2023, gfw is sending a clear signal: Digitalisation in companies is one of the central tasks. The Municipal Department of Economic Development wants to further expand the attractiveness of the district of Warendorf as a business and living location through the digital transformation. "With the great interest, we are profiling the district of Warendorf as an economic region of digitalisation and innovation," says Managing Director Petra Michalczak-Hülsmann happily. Dr Matthias Koch adds: "We hope that as awarded company we will now be even better perceived as digital pioneer in our region."
