Digital Building Solutions at digitalBAU 2020

Digital BAU celebrates premiere

As a trade fair for digital solutions in the construction industry, digitalBAU celebrated its premiere this year.

From February 11-13, 2020, around 10,000 national and international visitors met at the Cologne exhibition center to get to know the digital innovations of the 270 exhibitors. Solutions and developments for the entire construction industry and the entire building life cycle were presented. We are happy to have been able to participate in this first-time industry event. During the three days, visitors could get to know our “digital toolbox” live at the DBS booth. Our solutions are designed to make the core processes around the window trade faster, more stable and more cost-efficient.

Visitors were able to experience window elements in a completely new dimension with DBS WinDo Imaging: The virtual reality (VR) application makes it possible to experience products in the virtual showroom. This virtual window simulation via VR headset opens up completely new visualization possibilities for window manufacturers, dealers and architects. Many of our visitors also had the opportunity to wear VR glasses for the first time. They were able to experience windows and doors in a realistic perspective – both on the facade and inside the building. All elements could be selected, configured and displayed digitally as desired.

Furthermore, visitors could learn how to use DBS WinDo Planning for their window and door planning: Using the planning software windows and doors can be planned digitally and BIM-compliant. In addition, the program accelerates the planning process and improves security, because all knowledge about the used profile systems, available articles and rules is stored in digital form and updated constantly. The software also performs calculations, takes static requirements into account and enables the presentation as a complete 2- or 3-D model including the profiles, reinforcements, drillings etc.

Last but not least, our digital window memory DBS WinDo Flow was a success at digitalBAU. The NFC-chip built into the window profile can be used for many purposes. Window manufacturers can benefit from completely new possibilities: From the optimization of assembly processes, to paperless administration, to new up- and cross-selling potentials with end customers. The DBS WinDo Flow solution consists of an intuitive web interface (Cockpit) as well as two mobile apps (InstallationPro and WindowPass), which enable the individual use in the office and on the construction site. By connecting the DBS WinDo Flow-system to the window construction software, information and attachments of orders as well as products can be imported and managed easily.

All in all, the visitors’ assessment of the fair was very positive. The industry is in a spirit of optimism and the majority see the digitalization as an opportunity to ensure long-term success in the construction process. Experts agree that the use of digital tools and solutions can increase productivity and efficiency along the entire construction value chain. With our innovative ideas and practical solutions, we are pursuing the goal of driving this digitalization in the construction industry forward. The industry meeting in Cologne was an important first step in this direction.
