The window with the digital view

Transparency throughout the entire life cycle

Windows accompany buildings for decades. Yet valuable information often gets lost along the way: technical details, contact channels, installation instructions, or later service requirements. With WinDo Flow, a continuous digital foundation is created that makes relevant information available at the right time and in the right place: for window manufacturers, installers and end customers.

WinDo Flow is the digital memory that connects the entire life cycle of a window: from production to installation on the construction site, through to use by the end customer and subsequent recycling. The solution establishes a new, reliable information base that is transparent for window manufacturers, accessible for end customers and easily expandable as the level of digitalization grows.

“The animated illustration shows the three expansion stages available today—Pass, Works, and Connect—supplemented by an optional outlook on the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for the future.

Start flexibly, grow securely

WinDo Flow creates clarity and relieves everyone involved. Window manufacturers benefit from digital processes, from order placement to final acceptance. End customers receive central information and straightforward communication channels. At the same time, WinDo Flow lays the foundation for meeting regulatory requirements in the years ahead.

Every company begins its digital journey differently. That’s why WinDo Flow offers two independent entry points: Pass and Works. Both paths later merge meaningfully through the Connect expansion stage, which integrates product-specific information.

AluConnect window with QR Code to WebApp WinDo Pass

WinDo Pass makes windows digital

Every window receives a unique digital identity. A QR code or NFC chip on each element guides end customers to a clear and intuitive web app containing basic information and contact options. Product‑specific data is intentionally not included at this stage, as it is only added through the Connect expansion level.

WinDo Pass offers:

  • General recycling and contact information
  • Contact channels for reaching the window manufacturer or recycling company
  • Integration of the window manufacturer’s brand identity
  • No product‑specific technical data (available later via Connect)

Outlook

The EU Digital Product Passport (DPP)

The European Union aims to make its economy as sustainable as possible. With the EU Ecodesign Regulation introduced in July 2024, this process is being further accelerated. A central element is the mandatory introduction of a Digital Product Passport for almost all physical goods. For windows and doors, the Construction Products Regulation published at the beginning of 2025 adopts this requirement and defines the criteria for a Digital Product Passport.

WinDo Flow is prepared for this and will enable structured data provisioning in the future. We have developed a solution that can securely and systematically provide relevant data and therefore forms a stable foundation for upcoming requirements.

Important: WinDo Pass is not a DPP today. The options shown serve exclusively as an early point of orientation.

DBS WinDo Flow explained in 5 steps

To identify window and door elements, either a QR code or an NFC chip can be used. The video demonstrates how the Cockpit and the InstallationPro app are used, based on the example of NFC chips. Alternatively, a discreet sticker with a QR code can be placed in the frame rebate of the element.
