How WinDo Flow speeds up window installation

Tradition meets innovation

With over 70 years of experience, the Gernan window manufacturer Schäfer GmbH from Bergkamen is a traditional family business specializing in the manufacturing of PVC-U and aluminium windows, doors and façades. The fourth generation is already in the starting blocks: Mario Schäfer has been working in his parents' company since 2017 and is responsible for digitalization. In recent months, he has made a significant contribution to the implementation of the digital solution DBS WinDo Flow. In a personal interview, he has now given an exclusive insight into the challenges and successes of implementing and using WinDo Flow.

A smooth start

When asked about the implementation effort and duration, Mr. Schäfer reports: "We were able to use the system after around one to two weeks. The onboarding support was great and our team received excellent support. Overall, it only took two to three months before we were able to exploit the full scope and benefits of the solution."

The interface to the Klaes window construction software enables the access to all relevant data on orders and items. All window-related data can then be digitally documented and managed via the web application (Cockpit). The solution is particularly practical in combination with the app InstallationPro. This is used to provide the installers on the construction site with all the important information about the order.

Many advantages of the WinDo Flow solution

There are numerous advantages of the digital solution. Mr. Schäfer particularly emphasizes the live view of all events on the construction site: "Thanks to the InstallationPro app, we can see the current status at any time. The final acceptance by the end user is now also digital, which simplifies the processes enormously. The photo storage and assignment are also particularly helpful, as photos are no longer distributed across different channels."

Furthermore, since the introduction of the cockpit, upcoming deadlines at Schäfer Fenster have been managed centrally via the installation planning, which provides a much better overview. In this context, the flexible distribution of tasks is also very useful. This is because if an employee is finished more quickly, a new job can be assigned to them immediately.

Saving time in everyday work

Since using WinDo Flow, Schäfer Fenster has been able to save a considerable amount of time. "The switch saves us about an hour a day, especially when it comes to the planning and documentation on the construction site. Our installers can start their work much faster and concentrate on the essentials, as WinDo Flow takes over many administrative tasks," explains Mario Schäfer. Using individual questionnaires, his installers can carry out the service according to predefined steps and now document it digitally. Everything then ends up in the Cockpit immediately.

Wishes for future extensions

When asked about future expansions, Mr. Schäfer names specific wishes: "We would be pleased to have a function for making appointments with end users for maintenance or services. It would also be very helpful to provide systems such as CE markings for the end user. The integration of installation orders would also be a desirable enhancement. However, the last point is on our side, as DBS already provides the framework conditions for this."

At DBS all digital solutions are developed fruther constantly, there are already solutions for Mr. Schäfer's wishes. Therefore, the partnership will be further expanded and intensified in the future.

A positive conclusion

In conclusion, Mr. Schäfer draws a positive conclusion: "Initially, we were sceptical as to whether the switch to a digital system would really bring so many advantages. We did have a little extra work at the beginning, but we were definitely pleasantly surprised. The implementation was straightforward and the increase in efficiency speaks for itself. Our employees are also super happy with the new solution. It was definitely the right decision."
